Cotton T-Shirts for Every Print Method and Program Type
Cotton Construction by Decoration Method
Gildan G500 for Screen Printing at Volume
Gildan G500 (5.3 oz, 100% preshrunk heavy cotton) is the most widely ordered blank for plastisol screen printing. Open-end cotton bonds cleanly with ink, the weight holds shape under multi-color registration, and case pricing at volume is very competitive. The standard spec for event tees and promotional programs.
Bella+Canvas 3001C for DTF and DTG
BC 3001C (4.2 oz, Airlume combed and ring-spun cotton) gives DTF transfers sharper edges and better adhesion than open-end cotton. For DTG printing, the tighter ring-spun weave holds ink more evenly. The softer hand also matters for programs where the end customer evaluates the t-shirt quality, not just the print.
Comfort Colors C1717 for Garment-Dye Programs
Comfort Colors C1717 (6.1 oz, ring-spun, garment-dyed) is the standard blank for pigment-wash and vintage-finish merchandise. The dye process creates natural color variation and a pre-washed feel. Screen printing over garment-dye works well with plastisol. Match dye lot carefully for reorders, color variation is part of the product but can affect brand consistency.
Fabric Weight and End-Use Match
4.0-4.5 oz ring-spun (Bella+Canvas 3001C) is right for fashion retail and DTF/DTG work. 5.0-5.5 oz open-end cotton (Gildan G500) is the standard for promotional screen printing. 6.0+ oz garment-dyed (Comfort Colors C1717) is suited to retail-adjacent branded merchandise where the blank quality is part of the sale.
