Description
The Gildan G828 is a unisex premium cotton double pique polo built on 6.6 oz 100% combed ring-spun cotton that is preshrunk for minimal movement after washing. The double pique knit creates a textured, structured surface that is noticeably heavier and more durable than standard 5-5.5 oz pique polos, which makes the G828 a strong substrate for embroidery programs where the fabric needs to support high stitch counts without puckering or tunneling.
The contoured welt collar and cuffs hold their shape through repeated industrial laundering, a common failure point on lighter polos where collars curl and lose structure. The 1-1/4" clean-finish reinforced placket with three dyed-to-match buttons sits flat for left-chest embroidery placement. Rolled-forward topstitched shoulders prevent the shoulder seam from riding up and shifting sleeve-print registration. The 2-1/2" side vents at the hem allow the polo to sit naturally when worn untucked.
For decoration, the structured double pique surface is built for embroidery. The 6.6 oz weight gives hoops and backing a stable, dense substrate that resists puckering even on high-stitch-count designs. DTF transfers bond well to the pique texture with a firm press. Screen printing works on the flat front panel, but the pique texture means fine halftone detail can break across the knit channels. Bold spot-colour graphics and text read cleanest. Sport Grey is 90/10 cotton/poly and Dark Heather is 50/50, so both need poly-block underbase and moderate cure for screen and DTG work.
